Perusing through the glossy fashion mags.....
.... I realized how much a handful of top designers, household names by now, dictate each season's colors and shapes and what makes it into the department stores. Having a bevy of choices does make fashion mags useful in sorting out what we should and shouldn't buy; so I will ascertain which trends this Spring are absolutely worth following.
One beauty trend this season was solid colored hair. Multi-colored strands are out in place of luxurious solid colored locks. Glossy, healthy natural looking hair was the epitome of luxury on the runways this Spring. If you're going for highlights, make sure they are subtle and natural looking. Many of the well know blonde supermodels opted for brown hair this season even if only for a few photoshoots.
The first trend I've noticed for Spring is the Safari look. Khaki one pieces and cute button up vests, jackets and dresses were all the rage in Proenza Schouler's collection and graced many editorials this season. You can take this look further with chunky wooden bangles, braided bangles, painted bangles.. you get the idea... and an envelope clutch.
Clutches big and small are a trendsetting statement. I've bought the two tone (purple with orange trim-shown above) Marc Jacobs quilted clutch and absolutely adore it. Don't be afraid of color! I never try to go for basic black if I can avoid it, especially for this season. AND do not try to match bags to shoe color- complete waste of time and no longer a fashion rule! I've noticed colorful bags like my Marc Jacobs clutch and the multi-colored LV bags go well with my patent grey Stella McCartney pumps or any of my white and patent beige shoes. If you must match a color, remember if the shade is close enought, it's all cool.
The popular large clutches take a bit of an adjustment to get used to since you have to hold them, but I found it looks elegant held in place under your arm- it's framed so nicely and adds a flair of sophistication and grace. It's a bit more minimalistic, yet completely cool in all settings whether paired with a cocktail dress or with jeans. It actually makes you think a little bit more about your posture- interestingly enough.
On with worthy Trend #3? Goddess gowns and dresses with the one shoulder. My awesome Spring collection features a couple of those looks- my "Veronica" silk jersey print dress is a must-have and exudes poolside, South Beach glamour. Ethnic touches here and there, whether a big gold chunky necklace or ornate jewelry set the mood this Spring. Long, flowy day dresses are a Must-Have this season (as if you haven't already noticed that...). My Spring collection features the long, flowy "Rachel dress." This is one of my personal favorites to wear because it's comfy, has all the right details and makes you feel like a flower child, and a pretty on at that.
Okay ladies, this is part one of my Spring/ Summer Fashion Series.... so check back for more interesting fashion insights and musings on my part. Au Revoir!
